SAKT – 4th round

Michelle

This last weekend I took part in the fourth round of the South African Kiteboarding Tour (SAKT). On Saturday, freestyle was held and, since it was my first competition, I wasn’t sure what I was doing. I felt confident in entering the novice until a friend made me enter the ladies pro. There was a good East wind blowing and I had a lot of fun even though I had quite a bad heat. The next day, the gusty west wind blew about 35knots+ and the ladies wave riding was held first. I was on my smallest 5m kite but I was still very over powered.. I caught one wave and then I lost my board.. After I got my board back I tried to get another wave but I was so overpowered that I lost my board again. I couldn’t body drag back to it because of the strong current and the wind direction. After a while, no one could see my board so the life savers took a boat and went searching for it. After about half an hour of searching they gave up – my board (my one and only amazing twin tip) was gone. :(

Before I knew it the heat was over and the mens wave riding started. At one stage, most of the competitors were on their 3m kites hoping the wind would calm. The prize giving was held that evening and I came 2nd in freestyle and I was very shocked when I came 3rd in wave riding because it seemed like all the other ladies were doing great when I just kept losing my board.

I had an amazing time meeting new people and watching everyone compete..

So it looks like I’ll be freestyling on my directional until I get a new twin tip?
