Windy week in Cannon Rocks

This past week has been filled with long kite sessions and strong West winds in Cannon Rocks - I’ve been so busy kitesurfing I haven’t had a chance to write a blog!

Yesterday was by far the perfect and most adventurous end to a series of fun kite sessions. The wind came up unexpectedly and by the time we got to the beach it was blowing about 20knots (or so I was told..) When I launched my kite, however, it was clearly a bit more. For as I launched my kite (my 6m PL Synergy) a gust took my half-inflated kite (oops), threw me into the air, bounced my kite off the nearest power line and wrapped it around a flag pole.. And there the kite happily flew – with me lying in the sand, clutching my bar and trying to get the sand out of my mouth.

When my kite was retrieved and launched (successfully) a second time, I was finally ready to get into the water - and besides the windsurfer, I was the first one in the water as the other kitesurfer ran to get a smaller kite after seeing my out-of-control-but-totally-planned flying trick into the flag pole..

The wind continued to stay strong, yet gusty and we (all 3 kitesurfers) were having a good time braving the wind until the one kitesufer had two of his kite lines break while he was kitesurfing.. So we let him try a Peter Lynn kite – and of course he loved it – doing big airs and some freestyle moves..

Unitl next time,

Michelle
