Fibre Optics Project.  The Project Manager from Huawei Technologies, contracted by Openserve, has approached the Cannon Rocks Ratepayers Association (CRRA) Committee for assistance with the investigation and implementation of the proposed Fibre Optics Project for Cannon Rocks.

A community meeting will be held on 30 July 2026 at 11:00 at the Cannon Rocks Community Hall, where the Project Manager will present the proposed project plan to residents and answer questions regarding the planned fibre network.

The proposed project plan includes.

  • The planned fibre network layout throughout Cannon Rocks.
  • The proposed underground ducting and sleeves for the fibre optic cables.

The layout provides for a connection point to every two properties, whether developed or undeveloped, similar to the existing Telkom distribution point system.

Wherever possible, the project will make use of the existing Telkom underground ducts/sleeves to minimise excavation and reduce disruption to roads and properties.

Except for the circumstances listed below, no excavation is currently anticipated.

  • P4W Manholes (approximately 1,000 mm in diameter) will accommodate the main splitter joints that interface between the feeder network and the distribution network.
  • P6 Manholes (approximately 500 mm in diameter) will accommodate the access joints where drop cables connecting individual properties are joined.
  • BB Manholes (approximately 400 mm in diameter) will accommodate the drop cables running from the P6 manholes to the splice boxes located within the Boundary Boxes.

In areas where no existing underground ducting infrastructure is available, additional ducting may be required.  It should be noted that the installation of new underground services will depend on the availability of funding, as the current project budget provides only limited provision for excavation works.

Residents are encouraged to attend the meeting to gain an understanding of the proposed project, view the network layout, and raise any questions or concerns before implementation proceeds.
